Become a SAWA Video Journalist

SAWA Video Journalists are those who have some video experience and a passion to document short videos of inspiring projects done by local leaders – “SAWA Heroes” - in the world’s 50 poorest countries. SAWA Video Journalists can be amateur or professional videographers and are generally from the 50 SAWA countries.

A SAWA Video Journalist will be screened for the following six criteria:

1.  Lives in one of the 50 SAWA countries (*)

2.   Has some understanding of and training in video production

3.   Has knowledge of website uploading techniques of video clips

4.   Can access computer, internet and editing software and technology

5.  Has a basic verbal and written knowledge of English

6.  Has identified a potential SAWA Hero and can submit several pictures of their project

* SAWA Video Journalists from non-SAWA countries are welcome to apply. They will have a chance to assist with special projects and video projects that need post-production assistance.

Step One: Download and Review User Guide

Step Two: Submit Video Journalist Application

After you have reviewed the User Guide, submit an email with the following information:

• Your name
• Email address 
• Country of residence
• Short description of video experiences
• Explanation of the editing software and hardware you will use
• Description of the type of camera you will use
• Which of the 50 SAWA countries you want to focus on
• A short description of the SAWA Hero project you propose to document including any pictures of the project you may have.

(2) How to Submit a SAWA Video

To have your video shown on the  SAWA website upload your video, a master/ full resolution copy (MOV, AVI, MPG etc), to our FTP server. Please email SAWA Global for the password and username: journalist [at] sawaglobal.com

(3) How to Submit a SAWA Hero Application

Each video should be accompanied with a written profile on the SAWA Hero. This includes the following information on the SAWA Hero:

• Contact information
• Name of the project
• Country
• SAWA Theme Area(s)
• Short description (no more than 1 paragraph) on the project including the inspiring aspects and positive impacts (what makes this project so special?)
• 3 to 5 simple ways others people can support the project (These should be NON-MONETARY ways, for example help with the development of an business plan, advice on fundraising ideas, suggest volunteer opportunities (e.g., visits by medical doctors), provide training and/or training materials (e.g., books for children) etc)
