Become a SAWA Mentor The SAWA Global website provides a direct link between YOU and the profiled SAWA Heroes through the SAWA Mentor Program. What is a SAWA Mentor? The role of a SAWA Mentor is to work in close partnership with the SAWA Hero, learning from the Hero’s success and sharing their own skills and ideas to help increase the impact of the project. SAWA Mentors help the project with specific goals that are identified by the SAWA Hero. The goals of each project are listed in the 'Call to Action' of each SAWA Hero Profile. NOTE: the listed tasks under the 'Call of Action' do not promote the direct donation of funds to the SAWA Hero, but rather encourages the exchange of ideas, skills and partnership to grow the success of the project. (e.g. assistance in developing a business plan or fundraising strategy, training materials, books for children etc). For example a SAWA Mentor may conduct research on and help develop a partnership between a SAWA Hero in Kenya and a company that donates used-computers in Canada. These computers can than be used to train local business women in slums around Nairobi to conduct research on business management. The mentoring mainly takes place through email, but can also occur through regular mail, telephone, or in some circumstances, in person (Note: in this latter case, the Mentor must cover all expenses incurred). A SAWA Mentor is encouraged to participate for at least one year (or as specified in agreement between the Hero and Mentor). A single project can have up to 5 mentors.
