SAWA Hero

A SAWA Hero is an extraordinary and inspiring person from one of the 50 poorest countries in the world that has demonstrated success in providing practical and long term solutions to one or more of the five SAWA Global Themes.

These SAWA themes represent practical solutions to the urgent global challenges and are aligned with some of the key goals of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

A SAWA Hero typically runs a community-based organization or another type of grassroots organization to achieve a high-impact result. These projects of groups are non-governmental and non- political and non-religious in nature. A SAWA Hero has received no or minimal outside assistance and exposure, either on a regional, national or international level.
